God delivered you… so why do you keep going back? Back to the same habits. The same relationships. The same decisions. The same environments. The same responses. Same patterns. Same pain. Same results. In this powerful message, Dr. Eric Thomas challenges us to confront one of the hardest parts of change: sometimes getting free isn’t the hardest part—staying free is. “Stand fast therefore in the liberty wherewith Christ hath made us free, and be not entangled again with the yoke of bondage.” — Galatians 5:1 (KJV) God can open the door. God can provide the opportunity. God can remove you from the environment. God can give you another chance. But what happens when the pressure is gone and the thing you were delivered from starts looking familiar again? The Bible gives us a graphic picture in Proverbs 26:11: “As a dog returneth to his vomit, so a fool returneth to his folly.” It’s uncomfortable—but that's the point. Why do we return to things we already know hurt us? Why do we repeat patterns after experiencing the consequences? Why do we ask God to deliver us from something—and then find ourselves walking back toward the very thing we prayed to escape? This message examines several biblical examples that reveal that people don't always go back for the same reason. SAMSON went back because of APPETITE. Something can be destructive and still be desirable. SAUL went back because of INSECURITY. Sometimes what keeps pulling us backward isn't pleasure—it's an unresolved need for approval, acceptance, control, or validation. PHARAOH went back because of RELIEF. When the pressure disappeared, so did the urgency to change. And that raises a serious question: What keeps taking YOU back? Your appetite? Your insecurity? The temporary relief you feel once the consequences disappear? Or is there another pattern you haven't identified yet? 🔥 THIS IS WHERE COACHING MATTERS. ET draws from the world of elite performance and coaching to show us that winning isn't simply about knowing what went wrong. Great players study the film. They review the play. They accept what happened. Then they make the adjustment. REVIEW THE PATTERN. Stop pretending it didn't happen. Look at the replay. What keeps showing up? What decisions consistently come before the outcome you say you don't want? OWN THE RETURN. There is a difference between acknowledging what happened and taking responsibility for your part in it. You can't adjust what you refuse to own. ADJUST THE SYSTEMS. Knowing your pattern isn't enough. Insight without adjustment can simply make you more informed while repeating the same behavior. Change the environment. Change the routine. Change the access. Change the boundaries. Change the system that keeps making the old behavior easy. REVIEW. OWN. ADJUST. Then— 🔥 GET BACK IN THE GAME. This isn't a message about living condemned by your past. It's about refusing to keep allowing yesterday's patterns to determine tomorrow's results. Maybe you've already been delivered. Maybe the door is already open. Maybe God has already given you another opportunity. The question is: Are you going to keep walking forward—or are you going back? BROKEN REFLECTIONS | Sometimes the Problem Isn’t the Event… It’s the Meaning What if the thing affecting you most isn’t actually what happened—but the meaning you attached to what happened? In BROKEN REFLECTIONS, Pastor TJ challenges us to examine the connection between the events we experience, the meaning we give those events, the emotions that follow, and ultimately the behaviors those emotions produce. EVENT → MEANING → EMOTION → BEHAVIOR We often assume our emotions are simply reactions to what happened. But sometimes we aren’t responding to the event itself—we’re responding to our interpretation of the event. A conversation happens. Someone says something. A relationship changes. A door closes. Something doesn’t go according to plan. And before we have all the information, we can create a meaning for what happened: “They don’t respect me.” “They don’t want me.” “I’m being overlooked.” “This is going to fail.” “God must not be with me.” Then that meaning begins shaping our emotions—and those emotions begin influencing our behavior. That’s where the reflection can become broken. 📖 Matthew 16:21–23 Peter gives us a powerful example. Jesus tells His disciples what is going to happen, and Peter reacts strongly. From Peter’s perspective, he may have believed he was protecting Jesus. His intentions may have even felt right. But Jesus could see something Peter couldn’t. Peter was reacting to what he thought the moment meant, while God was doing something much bigger than Peter understood. And the same thing can happen in our lives. Sometimes we are trying to fix something God is using. Sometimes we are fighting something God is allowing. Sometimes we are offended by something we misunderstood. Sometimes our first reaction feels completely justified—until we receive more information. So the question becomes: What if your reaction is based on a broken reflection? What if the event didn’t change—but the meaning you assigned to it needs to? What could change in your marriage, your family, your friendships, your leadership, your workplace, your faith, and your relationship with God if you learned to examine the meaning before reacting to the moment? REFLECTION QUESTIONS 1. Have you ever reacted strongly to something—only to realize later that what you thought was happening wasn’t actually what was happening? What changed when you got more information? 2. What is one situation in your life right now where the meaning you’ve attached to it may be affecting how you feel or how you’re responding? Could there be another way to interpret it? 3. Like Peter, you may think you’re protecting, fixing, or doing the right thing—but where might your reaction be getting in the way of what God is trying to do in your life? What would your next move look like if you responded from faith instead of your first reaction? Broken things can still reflect perfect light. The goal isn’t to pretend that painful things didn’t happen. It’s to allow God to reveal whether the meaning we’ve attached to those experiences is producing a distorted reflection. Before you react… Examine the event. Question the meaning. Recognize the emotion. Choose the response. YOU’RE GOING TO HELL… UNLESS? | Dr. Eric Thomas What if the thing you’ve been most concerned about isn’t the thing God is looking at? We know how to look the part. We know how to say the right things. We can serve, preach, give, worship, accomplish incredible things—and still miss what God is examining. The heart. People recognize the gift. God knows the heart behind the gift. People can applaud what is visible while something invisible remains completely undiagnosed. This message isn't about creating fear for the sake of fear. It's an invitation to examine ourselves before God—to stop assuming that outward activity automatically tells us what's happening inwardly. SEARCH ME. KNOW ME. REVEAL ME. CHANGE ME. THE ONE NOT DIAGNOSED | Dr. Eric Thomas Some of the most dangerous conditions are the ones we never recognize. We know when something around us is broken. We can identify problems in other people. We can point to circumstances, relationships, disappointments, and frustrations—but what happens when the real issue is somewhere we haven't looked? The heart. In “The One Not Diagnosed,” Dr. Eric Thomas continues the Know My Heart message by challenging us to stop treating the symptoms while ignoring the source. Scripture tells us: “Search me, O God, and know my heart: try me, and know my thoughts.” — Psalm 139:23 The Bible describes the heart as the center of our desires, motives, intentions, affections, and will. And according to Proverbs 4:23, the issues of life flow from it. That means our reactions have a source. Our attitudes have a source. Our anger has a source. Our jealousy has a source. Our bitterness has a source. Our insecurity has a source. But so do our compassion, forgiveness, obedience, and love. Behavior is the fruit. The heart is the root. Jeremiah 17 warns us that the heart can be deceptive—which means something can be operating inside of us without us fully recognizing it. We can call it personality when God calls it pride. We can call it protecting our peace when God may be confronting unforgiveness. We can blame someone for making us angry while God asks why their actions have that much control over what happens inside of us. That's why David's prayer wasn't, “God, search them.” It was: SEARCH ME. SHOW ME. CLEAN ME. God doesn't expose the heart simply to reveal what's wrong. He reveals it so He can transform it. A bitter heart eventually affects relationships. A prideful heart eventually rejects correction. An insecure heart eventually sabotages opportunities. But when God changes the root, different fruit begins to grow. This message is an invitation to stop asking God only to change our circumstances, habits, behavior, or results—and give Him permission to address the place those things are coming from. Because sometimes we're trying to fix the fruit while God is trying to heal the root.
